Overview

Kedai Timbel Dago, nestled on Jl. Ir. H. Juanda in the heart of Bandung, offers a genuine taste of Sundanese culinary tradition. This cozy restaurant specializes in nasi timbel, a fragrant rice dish wrapped in banana leaves, paired masterfully with a variety of classic Sundanese sides that evoke a homely, comforting dining experience.

The main highlights include the Paket C, featuring ayam bakar (grilled chicken) portions from both the thigh and breast, complemented by tahu, tempe, fresh lalab (raw vegetables), and a robust sambal that adds the perfect spicy kick. Customers also rave about the sayur asem—a fresh, tangy tamarind-based vegetable soup—and the ikan jambal, a salted fish delicacy that pairs exceptionally well with sambal. For those who lean toward fried classics, the nasi timbel ayam goreng is another staple choice, delivering familiar flavors executed with care.

The ambiance is intimate and warmly inviting, evoking a sense of home with its modest, clean space. While seating options may be limited and somewhat basic, the inclusion of baby chairs speaks to the restaurant’s family-friendly nature. The parking area is tight, reflecting its city center location, but the convenience of take-away and popular app-based delivery services offers alternatives for those navigating Bandung's busy streets.

Kedai Timbel Dago appeals broadly to both locals who appreciate authentic Sundanese cuisine and visitors seeking a flavorful, cultural experience. The staff are noted for their warmth and attentive service, enhancing the sense of community and hospitality that Sundanese food culture is known for. Portion sizes strike a balance—satisfying without overwhelming—making it ideal for solo diners or small groups eager to savor varied flavors without excess.

In essence, Kedai Timbel Dago stands out as a go-to destination in Bandung for those craving true nasi timbel and Sundanese classics. It combines quality ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and a welcoming atmosphere to create meals that are both light and richly satisfying. Whether you are a seasoned fan of regional dishes or simply in search of a homey, flavorful meal in Bandung, this spot deserves a visit.

One of the best nasi timbel in Bandung. Only opens on certain hours. Taste is good and portion is adequate. Price is also suitable, not too expensive and too cheap. Eating premise is poor, not too many chairs and chairs were not comfortable. But they have baby chairs. They accept debit/credit cards and they do take aways. If you are lazy to come here because of traffic, you can order via go-food.

Very delicious homey food! It's a bit pricey, but since i don't live in bandung, i still find it worth to try. I would go back again. The set meal comes with the sayur asem soup, grilled chicken or fried chicken, fried tofu and tempe, and a tiny salted fish called ikan jambal. For those who love ikan jambal, this restaurant serves a good fried ikan jambal, paired very well with sambal. Place is very cozy and homey ambience, clean and good service. But the parking space is very limited.

I love everything from the food, place, and the people. The nasi timbel is actually modest and light but it tastes just right. Loves everything especially the gepuk and karedok. I happen to have small chat with who I believe is the owners (?). Nonetheless the people is so warm and gives you the best service.

Driven by hunger, I forgot to take more photos of the dishes served at our table. However, what I can tell you is that the food here is incredibly delicious and perfectly embodies Sundanese food culture. We ordered Nasi Timbel, rice wrapped in leaves and cooked to perfection with a wonderful fragrance. For the side dishes, we chose grilled chicken, fried beef empal, and tofu tempeh. The vegetables were also delightful, including green beans, cucumber, and small squash, complemented by a spicy sambal ulek that pairs perfectly with the meal. Don't forget to order the Sayur Asem Soup. The broth is incredibly fresh and flavorful, with vegetables and sweet corn cob that you can enjoy with the tangy broth. To cool down, we ordered orange coconut juice. This light yet filling meal has brought us back to this restaurant multiple times, and we will certainly continue to return whenever we are in Bandung.

Kedai Timbel Dago serves a classic Sundanese meal with warm banana leaf-wrapped rice, crispy fried chicken, tempeh, tofu, fresh vegetables, and a punchy sambal. The chicken is flavorful with aromatic spices, the vegetables are fresh, and the sambal adds the perfect kick. Their sour vegetable soup (sayur asem) is light and refreshing—great for balancing the richness of the fried items. A comforting, down-to-earth meal that brings the taste of home-cooked Sundanese food.
